Analisis atas Literatur Gerakan Keagamaan Kontemporer

Abstrak

Artikel ini menganalisis ambivalensi agama dan gerakan sosial Kristen melalui analisis dari penelitian terdahulu di Amerika Latin, Afrika Selatan, Filipina, dan konteks lainnya. Analisis menunjukkan bagaimana simbol-simbol, serta praktik keagamaan, berfungsi bersamaan sebagai kekuatan pembebasan emansipatoris maupun legitimasi dominasi status quo. Metode menggunakan critical interpretive review terhadap literatur dari berbagai konteks gerakan sosial keagamaan berbasis kristiani. Temuan dalam artikel ini mengungkap mekanisme ambivalensi kekristenan, yaitu perjuangan internal atas makna keagamaan, penyebab perkembangan waktu yang dipicu krisis politik-ekonomi, serta pengaruh posisi agensi dalam hierarki sosial yang membentuk orientasi progresif atau konservatif. Konteks krisis sering memperkuat potensi pembebasan melalui komunitas akar rumput, sementara keselarasan dengan kelas dominan mendorong akomodasi dalam sistem sosial yang ada.
