Gereja Mula-Mula dan Pergumulan Politik Zamannya serta Implikasinya bagi Pergumulan Gereja Masa Kini
Abstract
Politik sering dipandang hal yang kotor, jahat dan patut dihindari oleh orang yang mau hidup benar/saleh; moto dari politik yang biasa kita dengar adalah dalam politik “tidak ada yang namanya kawan abadi ataupun musuh abadi, yang ada adalah kepentingan abadi”; politik pada akhirnya dipandang terutama sebagai alat untuk mencapai kekuasaan demi kepentingan kelompok/partai yang diusungnya; pemikiran dan sikap politik yang berkembang seperti ini membuat politik tidak bekerja untuk membangun kebaikan bagi masyarakat luas, namun untuk melayani kepentingan kelompok orang tertentu saja. Gereja tidak dapat bersikap pasif dengan pergumulan politik zamannya, namun di sisi yang lainnya gereja pun bisa terjerat dengan “obsesi akan kekuasaan” seperti halnya dengan partai politik pada umumnya saat ia terlibat dalam politik praktis; gereja harus secara aktif berperan dalam membangun masyarakat yang bermoral dan menjunjung tinggi keadilan dan kebenaran, dan untuk mencapai hal ini orang-orang Kristen tidak bisa tidak harus didorong untuk berpartisipasi aktif.
